Second Chance Reentry, (SCR) is currently a participating member of the NYS Jail Justice Network, a collective of affected individuals, advocates, and organizations fighting for justice for inmates in New York State prisons, and county jails.
SCR is also a member of the Nassau County Jail Advocates, a coalition of affected individuals, and community groups, challenging the current administration to reform the Nassau County jail’s harmful practices, failing healthcare system, denial of substance use and medication-assisted treatment services, and inadequate discharge and reentry processes.
We attend the monthly Nassau- Suffolk Heroin Task Force, which is comprised of district attorneys, law enforcement, and community based organizations from both counties, working to strengthen efforts to curb the heroin and prescription opiate epidemic by sharing arrest data across counties. We attend the meetings to provide a voice for active substance users targeted by law enforcement, and to encourage constructive discussion on alternatives to arrest for homeless drug users.
